This morning I mused on the interest people have about knowing what’s going on behind the scenes… doesn’t matter the subject: world events, politics, religion, sports, stock market, business and industry, arts and entertainment personalities… name any subject – any subject of interest – and those on the outside will show interest. Many people, not all of course, but many want to know the truth about what happened or is happening… who was or is involved… when and why…. Do I want to know? Sure! As much as I like hearing about most feel good stories: a homeless man wins power ball… a once-obscure young woman receives the golden buzzer on AGT… I do find myself drawn to the darker side issues… conspiracy theorists… political pundits and investigators… Sure! My ears perk up when I hear that another batch of classified documents were de-classified and released. I think to myself… well, maybe today we’ll get to the truth about this or that in our tortured, and terribly divided land. Now, I don’t know about you, but often I’m disappointed… not that someone is or isn’t going to jail, but what is revealed just exposes another layer to this rotten onion. As much as was de-classified, released, and consumed, the taste of this onion shows as many rotten layers as the world has generations. The truth is, evil exists and a battle has raged from the garden. I know that, and that returns my focus on what matters: the Gospel and the Revelation of Jesus Christ, which at book’s end reveals Christ’s return at any time, and the end of sin and death. Frankly, the Bible explains everything we need to know: a battle rages, powers and principalities, seen and unseen continues. Do I need to know the particulars behind the reality of wars? Election outcomes? Power mongering… liars, cheats, and thieves… envy, covetousness and murder? No, and for that reason, I find praying David’s prayer preferable: “Hide me from the secret counsel of evildoers, From the tumult of those who do iniquity.” Bottom line? I know the truth, and the truth has set me free – Jesus! And because of Him, it is only by God’s grace that I’m not directly involved in the evil we’re witnessing across the globe. Nonetheless, while I pray not to get my foot into any of those earthly doors where that secret counsel of evil meets, it’s always good to keep an ear at that door to possibly hear a trumpet blast.
