Now Lucifer, before his fall, was a mighty angel; one, if not the mightiest and most beautiful of all the heavenly host. I was told that his duty was to hover behind and above the throne of God and to reflect back upon God the glory that Jehovah cast throughout the heavens and which returned to him in a well-deserved praise and adoration.
Dr. John Barnett of Kalamazoo, MI., believed that Lucifer – that old devil – after reflecting God’s glory back upon Jehovah over many eons came to believe that he was the source of that glory! How could any sentient, passionate creature with free will not be tempted? How could such a one – in such a position of divine reflection – not be seduced to think that God’s glory was his own? Is that where he learned to later seduce Eve in the garden? Apparently one third of the angelic host thought the same as Lucifer came to believe and they joined him in his rebellion. Thus, God cast them all out of heaven, where that old snake and devil continues to wreak havoc:
LUCIFER’S FALL
Take a good, long look—
Squint if you must—
Strain your eyes.
Can’t you see it in the distance?
Spreading across the ebony sky
Descending, tumbling to earth—
A myriad stars.
Pushing, reviling—
Mouths opening in a cold and hardened ground,
Devouring our young—and promising
Nothing good—
But taking all.
Black holes spread across our hearts and land.
Newtown, old town—
A theatre in Aurora—
No Aurora Borealis is this—
Which is lovely, a heavenly sign that all is well,
Like a rainbow
What this is—it’s ugly,
Unless we stop it’s curse and course.
The reign and rain of hate-filled slurs and bullets
As victims begat victims begat victims—
Young and old, a rage that’s bold,
A cruel and heartless smile—
As the joker laughed—
The signs were plain
That Lucifer’s fall was real.
