Millpond Ink Musing, 2015 – No Commiseration

I don’t know if I heard anyone say they hoped for sympathy from God; mercy, yes, and forgiveness, but sympathy? A feeling of pity or sorrow for the distress of another? No.

Out of His pity He did provide the means to escape such real distress and that of our eternal and sinful condition; subject to His judgment. However, does that mean that God the Father commiserated with us?

No; not exactly. We are told that He takes no pleasure in the death of a sinner, but He did what He did; sending His only begotten Son and pouring out His wrath on Him to ransom us. Beyond that? He is just in all His ways; not party to our sins, and there will be no commiseration when we stand before Him alone; without Jesus as our advocate.
