Some men treat sin lightly as an infirmity; a moral flaw or failure that will continue as long as one lives; even as one may be infirm by some physical ailment. Those who do so come to accept it; and though they may morally reject it, they don’t repent and don’t mourn of it with increasing vigor for its removal.
There is no question that, as long as we live, we shall sin, but to rest in it rather than to struggle daily against it, while seeking God’s forgiveness? To not do this? Such is the sinner in Lucifer’s hospice, who considers sin incurable, while the Devil, as his caregiver, keeps him at peace; telling him there was no other way, and that the current discomfort was all he’d ever feel.
