Millpond Ink Musing – Utopia To A Fallen World

Okay, so I had this dream where I announced that all people… every person of every generation and nation were saved by God’s grace, and therefore after death everyone went to heaven. Immediately, there were millions who did not believe in a deity that readily came forward to embrace me; as if I was their savior. Not that they started to party after they heard what I said; no…, they merely moved the party they were already enjoying a bit closer to me. I did quickly notice off to the side a group of atheists who moved away shaking their heads, but then they quickly revealed a collective smile. I thought, ‘Why wouldn’t they? If they were wrong, they would be saved too… right? I’d smile too.’

Then, I was approached by billions who held quite a wide range of spiritual and religious practices other than Christianity. They were visibly upset with me because they taught their flocks that only those who followed their leaders and teachings were invited to their private party and this blanket announcement ruined their livelihood. But then, after thinking about it, the party goers… you know, those who didn’t believe in any deity but didn’t get as amped up as the atheists, they all stopped dancing at once (well-choreographed I must say), turned and asked for clarification. “Wait a second… you said everyone? Well, I don’t know about that,” they prattled. “There are some… you know, like… they’re really, really bad! They’d get in too? I don’t know if I like that.” Then, everyone looked at one another.. from all their backgrounds and beliefs, and then they looked at me! They started pressing in on me from every side. Some yelled, “Back slider!” Another, “Infidel!” Another; one who was a bit more reformed and proper, muttered, “Heretic.” I was feeling increasingly uncomfortable but then I became frightened for my safety.

“Let me out of here!” I screamed as I sat up in bed. “I don’t believe what I dreamt I said anyway,” I told myself repeatedly.

“No, but you did accomplish one thing,” I heard a voice saying. “Your dream brought everyone together in hating you; and that for them is Utopia. The same was true of my Son.”
