In Mark 14:64 we read how the high priest, after hearing Jesus’ admission of being the Christ, said, “You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?”
I marvel at our unwillingness to stand alone in our conviction. In this case, the high priest could have stopped at pronouncing Christ’s blasphemy and moved on, but no, he asked, ‘what do you think?’ Yes, as if his surrogates would not agree with him.
Just as much as the world looks for complicity in its sin for its strength of conviction; yes, but so do we in the body of Christ when our faith is weak, or we are compelled to agree when we really don’t concur, but you know… who are we to judge? That is our typical defense to remain silent. Nonetheless, while the world does so in darkness and cover-up, we are called to live in the light and truth. Agreement with others in the church; in whatever form; that is, saying yes, amen, and so on without the true conviction and carriage of the Spirit to fulfill our rightful duty and end must be a matter of great concern to us. It is certainly so to the One we call Father.
God forgive us this day when our yeahs are really nays and our oaths are defiled by inaction.
