Todays sermon, Spices, Flower, Lilies, and Myrrh, is based on the Song of Solomon, verse 13, “His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers: his lips like lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh.” I must admit that the Song of Songs, also known as the Canticles, has not been one of my go-to books. Why? Well, it is a love letter with flowery imagery and sensuality that I didn’t really understand. However, this excursion with C.H. Spurgeon has taught me how much I have missed out in realizing the real romance that exists between Jesus and his bride. Perhaps listening to his sermon will help you realize what I have begun to realize: Jesus lover of my soul!
