Today, If You Hear

“Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. “ Hebrews 3: 7-10

Today, if you hear his voice do not harden your heart. Unfortunately; sadly this blog today is not for the fool because, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.” Psalm. 53:1. Neither is it for the scoffer. “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,” 2 Peter 3:3. As the fool, the scoffers too have hardened their hearts. Why is that? As the writer of Hebrews said in the fullness of the Spirit of God, ‘they err in their heart because they have not known my ways.’ They walk after their flesh; which means they follow their finite physical minds and frail, mortal bodies.

Those who have the pride of mind, they think they are too intelligent, educated to believe in a 2,000 year old message of hope. They do not understand what it is to have the mind of Christ; a mind whose thoughts in us surpass our understanding. Nonetheless, the fools and scoffers who follow their minds consider their thoughts and understanding higher than God’s; so they confidently, yet tragically, reject the message that came from such a great cloud of witnesses that passed before them, even as they will pass over this posting in their FB timeline as they consider this topic folly. No, these same people have always rejected the testimony of the ages and God’s agents, which included appeals made through the patriarchs, prophets, kings; His own Son Jesus (who is the chief cornerstone), the Apostles and the millions of New Testament saints which walked before us; a procession of pilgrims in route, and in glory passing, to their final rest. These saints might even have included your mother, father, grandparents; brothers or sisters. Oh, if only you, who rely on your prideful knowledge, could hear what the prophet said and believed of God, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9.

For those who follow their flesh and the lust of their eyes, their hearts too are far from God. As much as I believe that one man should not be the slave of another, how easily we render ourselves slaves to the flesh. Our flesh, lived in sin, is as deadly a curse as the drugs we might turn to stimulate our bodies. We murder ourselves daily; slowly. Our appetites may vary as to what fruit we see hanging from that tree of good and evil, but there is one, the Devil, who knows our addictions; and using the power of the flesh in us, he comes; offering us a most tantalizing fruit and whispering, ‘take and eat.’ Is it not odd that after witnessing the increase of evil around us in the world, our city and street; we will readily dismiss God, but are more than willing to entertain the Devil? For those who know Christ, they know where they came from and out of the cauldron they graciously were delivered, “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:” Ephesians 2:2. Do you sense this to be true of you? Wouldn’t you prefer to be a son over a slave?

Today. Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart. If you stopped and read this post, one among the thousands that are passing on your timeline daily, there is a reason you stopped. God is calling. Please don’t say no, or say maybe tomorrow. Today is what you have, and even if you see another tomorrow, the eventual succession of ‘no’s’ will dim the light and harden the darkness.
