When His Excellences Converge

“The lot is cast into the lap, but it’s every decision is from the Lord.” Proverbs 16:33

Now, in what context is this true? Is it a statement to inspire faith that ‘whatever,’ all things work together for good, (as if God will figure it out as we go along) or…

The lot landed as God had planned from the first?

I believe the latter for He is sovereign and accomplished all things in accordance with the counsel of His own will and that before He got the ball rolling. How comforting that is to me and should be to all of us. He is faithful and His ways immutable! See how splendid His essence and attributes come together?

Those who believe the former make it seem to me at least that God is constantly scrambling to recover. What value His omniscience if He had to wait until the lot was cast before His next action was taken?

Others might suggest that God in His foreknowledge knew every permutation, and planned accordingly. I suppose, but that would then go against God’s economy and efficiency and the demonstration of His infinite wisdom and design. As for His economy and efficiency that is why the question is foolish whether God could create a rock so heavy that He couldn’t lift it. Why? God is true only to Himself and all His excellences!

But to answer that question, I will in this manner and illustration. Yes and yes. In God’s wisdom; as both just and justifier of those who have faith, He conceived a Rock who bore the weight of the sins of the world but in His wrath He had to forsake His only begotten Son as not to look upon Our sin. Still, Jesus is God; thus, yes and yes, God the Father through His Son both conceived of and lifted the weight of our sins… A weight that God the Father could not lift without Himself becoming mediator.

Get to know God today. Meditate on all of His attributes and when doing so, argue from the view that in Him all of His beauty and excellences converge and there is no conflict.
