Lacing Up – November 2, 2025

I don’t know where my brothers and sisters in Christ stand on faith or the walks they take each week… if even they walk for all seven days. Many walk only on the Sabbath, and that’s the day they were called to rest, while they should’ve spent the other six days beat-feeting down the spiritual path following in step with Jesus. No, for many, they walk in and out of church only to put on their Dr. Thin-sole running shoes. As for what I can say and know? Our physical walk runs on legs and feet, not hands and head. Sure, you can stand on your head—but try walking on it. I’ve seen hand-walkers tumble after a few yards. But then again, I’m not musing physical, am I? No—spiritual. We’re called to walk in the Spirit, and if we do, we won’t gratify the flesh (Gal 5:16). Keep step with the Spirit. Eyes closed? By faith, not sight (2 Cor 5:7). Maybe take a moment or two to wash the feet of one of our fellow travelers. Curious, isn’t it? John says, “Whoever claims to abide in Him ought to walk in the way just as He walked (1 John 2:6). Way? As in direction? Way? As in manner? Both. You can’t head holy-home without matching, or trying to keep in step with Christ’s stride. Plenty of folks march in directions that feel right, aiming for Mount Cornucopia, only to pasture with the goats (Prov 14:12).

So, that’s why I’m prayerfully lacing up:
  • Sandals to shake off (Matt 10:14) when dust and mire clings to my feet in those villages where the mucky-yucky is preached and crucifies Christ in a different manner, then I have those –
  • Spiritual Nikes – those ‘Just Do It,’ obey the Lord’s command and leave all of what you feel to the contrary behind.
There’s only so far we walk in a day—unless we ditch our rationalizations for staying put. That’s where faith stretches. No growth on the same route, same distance, every day. ‘No pain, no gain,’ it’s said. Then again, it’s only temporary, but where we’re headed is eternal.
