In the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 55, verse 2, Isaiah bid me, “Eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.” Was Isaiah talking about meat and drink as I think of it? No, not in the sense of a well-marbled, medium-rare Ribeye steak and glass of Merlot. Now, that’s not to say that that meal isn’t good or doesn’t bring delight to my soul. It does, but in this case, Isaiah alluded to a suffering Savior and Christ (just before – Chapter 53, the Messiah was spoken of as one pierced and wounded for our transgression and sins)… ‘an everlasting covenant.’ Isaiah spoke of the Messiah – Anointed One – the Christ, Jesus born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth… Jesus, the one who said, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” Yes, he is the one whom King Solomon spoke of in his Song, ‘Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.” Yes, I would say that those who approach Christ’s table – those who partake of the bread, and drink of the wine with true Spirit-filled understanding – they know what is good, and delight in the fatness… or you can say the abundance of God’s grace and mercy to be found in his Son.
